About the Jamboree
SCHOLARSHIP INFO
Our mission is to provide scholarships to up and coming young musicians in BC, to either attend a camp like Gavin Lake Fiddle Treat, take private lessons or pursue their musical education in another way. To this date, we have given out many grants. We try to keep it to ten per year, and from all the positive feedback that we receive from the grant recipients they are more than grateful for our help. This year, 2010, as an added bonus for the audience, and to show them where their ticket money is going, we plan to have some of the grant recipients come and perform for us on stage.

History of the Jamboree
This Jamboree in Quesnel was a dream of a few people twelve seasons ago. A few of the founding fathers were RJ Proulx, Roger Marthinsen, Jake Hess and Bob and Mae Campbell. I hope I have these people correct, twelve years is a long time. The first jamboree was mostly bluegrass playing to a small audience in the Senior’s Centre. Over the years it has evolved into a first class venue playing both country and bluegrass to an enthusiastic audience filling the Senior’s Centre. We are one of the few Jamborees to be held indoors, we provide on site parking for out of town RVs, a concession is provided all four days, security, vendors, and a dance floor for your enjoyment. Both local and out of town bands play all day, giving the audience exactly the right mix of both country and bluegrass music. This venue’s purpose is to create an environment of wholesome family entertainment. We have a band scramble at the end of each day’s events as well as a open mike “Circle of Friends” in the morning before the first performers.
One of the dreams of this Jamboree was to help and promote young musicians. A scholarship fund has been set up from proceeds of each Jamboree. Our mission statement is to provide scholarships to up and coming young musicians to further their musical ambitions either by taking private lessons or attending one of the many camps throughout BC, one of which is the Gavin Lake Fiddle Treat held in July. To date we have given away many scholarships and are pleased when the young recipient comes back and shows us how good they are doing. Some of the past recipients are Adam Johnson, Deni Stone, Carmen and Shania Boichat just to name a few.
Monthly meetings are held at the Senior’s Centre, the first Wednesday of each month from October to April. Membership is $5 per person, this entitles you to a vote at the Annual General Meeting. The Jamboree Committee is always looking for new members to add input and we always need volunteers for the Jamboree, as well as the months leading up. Advance tickets, available until April 21, 2010, are $30 for the 4 day event and may be purchased from 250-992-6290 or from Circle S Western Wear in Quesnel. The cost at the door is $35 or $10 per day.
