Band Profiles for the 13th Annual Jamboree
JJ AND THE KOUNTRY KIN
They're back!!!!!! Last year they were known as Makin? Memories but now JJ and the Kountry Kin are back for all to hear. The band comprises of JJ (Jim) Johnson and his siblings Doug Johnson, Bernice Casteel, Chelsea Heppell and their "adopted brother" Al Cameron. Together they have the crowd on their feet, toes tapping and hands clapping, separately they are all fine musicians. When Al cuts loose on the fiddle the dance floor is crowded. The ballads and close harmony keep people coming back for more. This is a multi talented group and are welcome wherever they perform.
OUT OF THE BLUE
Out of the Blue is a female quartet of musicians, who as individuals have been playing in and around Quesnel in various bands and groups for some time. Judy Skerratt and Debbie Lawlor are members of Country Calibre, Betsy van Halderen is the director of the group Sweet Harmony, and Arlene Loxterkamp is a member of the band Bandalero. In late 2009 these four ladies formed a group with the intention of having fun with harmony, learning a new instrument, and bringing a little different style of music to the stage. The result is an eclectic mix of bluegrass and country music, styled both for dancing and listening, with an interesting blend of instruments and voices that is sure to please everyone.
LIVIN' COUNTRY
Floyd Shaver has been playing and singing for many years. Ernie Reutlinger has been pickin' and singin' for the same amount of time while Dianne Reutlinger has been playing bass for the last few years. Together they bring back the sounds of good old country music. Floyd has a voice that could rival country singer Gene Watson. This is their first time to the Quesnel Jamboree but it will probably not be their last visit.
LONESPUR
Lonespur was formed early in 2009. They are currently comprised of three members. Bryan Worrall (guitar and vocals), Ron Meadows (harmonica) and Hugh Neave (guitar). Bryan was initially asked to perform for a fund raiser to be held at Grassy Plains for the local rodeo. Ron and Hugh were asked to join up and Lonespur was started. They play a mix of country music, and perform locally in the Francois Lake area for music festivals, fall fairs, senors homes and generally get together for fun and fellowship that music provides. Brian said that they look forward to coming to Quesnel to perform with the intent to entertain all those in attendance and meeting with new and old friends and acquaintances.
OLD 'N COUNTRY
Old 'n Country was formed in the spring of 2009. Dennis Hopkins on lead guitar and vocals, Barry O'Brien, rhythm guitar and vocals, his wife Cathy on bass and Glenise Hopkins on vocals. Glenise and Dennis have been running the Cottonwood Jam out on the Barkerville Highway for several years. This is where Barry and Cathy attend faithfully on Saturday night. Together they decided to combine their musical talent and friendship and form this group. They played at the Jamboree last year with their dear friend Merv Abrams who passed away in August and is missed dearly by all.
