Band Profiles for the 14th Annual Jamboree
COUNTRY n' STUFF
A very popular band with a repertoire of even more popular tunes. This band has been playing together approximately seven years.
Stan works diligently at perfecting his lead guitar for the often requested "oldies but goodies".
Lola has played and sung in several bands since she was 16 years old.
Larry has also played with several bands in the past years.
If you've heard them play, there is nothing left to say.
DENI and ADAM
Deni (17) and Adam (14) have been playing Fiddle together for a decade now, entertaining crowds with their style of Old Time dance music. They have been teaching at local schools and helping with music programs to share their love and passion for music. Both are accomplished musicians having done very well in contests over the years, and this past year both became our B.C. Provincial Champions! (Adam for the Open Category and Deni for the Championship). Deni, who is graduating this year, is teaching fiddle. He has also been learning guitar and studying various music styles on both acoustic and electric guitar. Adam has been learning acoustic guitar as well, but his most fascinating accomplishment this year has been to play a right handed fiddle almost as well as he can play his left handed one!
FRANK GLEESON
Frank has entertained far and wide on both sides of the 49th parallel. He was declared the official poet of Williams Lake by City Council in 2003. He was nominated for male cowboy poet of the year for the Academy of Western Artists on several occasions and top five in 2003.
He is known as the fastest funniest cowboy poet in the West.
Frank has entertained many dignitaries too; Mayors, Councils, the Lieutenant Governor, the Premier of BC and numerous others. His songs and poems have been played on radio and TV throughout Canada and Europe.
He was feature entertainer for many years at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada.
Frank was inducted into the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame in March 2010.
His many years of cattle ranching gave him ample material which you will hear in his songs and poems.
He has four CDs, five books, all original material.
DEN and FRIENDS
Many years after learning the accordion as a child, Dennis dusted it off in retirement and loves to play so people can dance. Now joined by his wife Kathie on guitar and any other friends he can get to play along, he plays music from years ago. He loves to include a variety of waltzes, schottisches and polkas. Den we are ever so grateful that your mother insisted you 'practice'.
Den will be joined by Darrel Edmunds on guitar and vocals.
QUESNEL OLD TIME FIDDLERS
The Quesnel Old Time Fiddlers have been volunteering their music to area residents for more then four decades. The musicians have changed through the years, but the popularity of the music is as strong as ever. Talent ranges from amateur to those who have represented us nationally. From these earlier times, there has been a 'legacy' handed down from one generation to the next and this weekend we will happily enjoy the music of some of the local young fiddlers who have received bursaries to assist them with their lessons as a result of our 'Festival'. Thank you... One and All....
